In the 1970s, Lou Bock worked for Monterey Bay Wine Company. The owner—and legendary bluegrass tenor—Joe Kimbrough, gave Lou the bug for the wine business. Lou Bock worked as a rancher in Santa Cruz, then purchased a vineyard in the Redwood Valley using a federal loan for new farmers. On this land, he grew Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, and Viognier for Chance Creek Wines.
In 1983, Lou founded Bock Vines & Wines. Over the years, operations moved from Bock’s living room to a small office in downtown Davenport, California. After expanding the catalog to include world-class small-batch spirits, Bock Vines & Wines became Bock Wines & Spirits—a statewide operation run from Pier 26 on the San Francisco waterfront.
The ongoing success of Bock Wines & Spirits is built on a history of bringing new wine and spirit brands into the marketplace. Many of today’s popular wines and spirits were originally brought to market by Bock Wines and Spirits.
Today, Lou Bock’s Redwood Valley property is an organic farm producing olives, olive oil, wine, and lamb. His experience as a rancher, vintner, and farmer is the foundation of his longstanding commitment to working with organic and bio-dynamic producers.
